Nannas Day Nurseries runs Forest School sessions at all our sites with our Qualified Forest School Leader Jasmine Taylor
Our Turner Road and Cowper Crescent sessions are run at Highwoods Country Park and our Hawthorn Avenue session runs at Welsh Woods. Both forest sites are within walking distance from the nurseries. Sessions are taken with our oldest pre-school children, maximum 8 at any one time, and there are two sessions at each site each week.
Parents are required to give written permission before children can attend. Forest School enables children to learn and develop important life skills in an outdoor environment, exploring nature and engaging with their peers in small groups, carrying out tasks and activities. Children learn to take and manage risks and develop their understanding of rules and boundaries, setting these alongside the Leader at each session, whilst learning how to care for the environment around them.
Children develop their skills in using tools such as potato peelers for whittling branches, sticks for making fires and hand saws for cutting wood. As such they become independent, confident, courageous and self-motivated with a strong self-esteem and self confidence.
