What it takes to become a Nanna

Our recruitment process is tough as we only want the very best staff working for us and caring for our children.

Applicants must collect application packs in person from our Turner Road nursery, bringing with them some photo ID. Once completed and returned, applicants forms will be marked and if they meet the criteria they will be invited in for an interview. All applicants undertake two interviews with our Operational Area Manager and Managing Director.

Depending on the level of the applicant these will involve observed time in the room with the children, a planned and carried out activity, a written exam and a presentation. Applicants will then be shortlisted and references collected before job offers are made dependent upon successful DBS checks. All new employees then undergo a three month probation period during which time they are required to prove their dedication to working with children and their professionalism that Nannas require.

In addition to this, employees complete 7 induction modules which cover all aspects of working practice from Safeguarding to Health and Safety and Planning. These test both employee’s practical and theoretical skills and knowledge. When employees successfully complete their probation period they are issued with a special Nannas goody bag containing their uniform and they officially become a Nanna!

Qualifications and Training
All employees are trained to at least Level 3 in Early Years. Nannas Day Nurseries works with local training agencies to support staff in completing their qualifications. These are completed alongside their full time position with time out at work to complete work and be observed by their tutors. Additional further training is offered to employees with their Level 3 qualification to improve their professional development, these include NVQ’s in Management and Team Leading and Level 4 qualifications and beyond to Degree level.

All employees are also trained in paediatric First Aid and this is updated on a three yearly basis. Nannas Day Nurseries have specially trained coordinators throughout the nursery who are able to advise on matters ranging from Health and Safety to Behaviour, they have attended additional external training in these areas. Nannas Day Nurseries has a Designated Safeguarding Children Officer and two Deputies who regularly update their training and ensure children in our care are kept safe and protected from harm.

Reward Schemes

Your Birthday Off!
When employees have been at Nannas for 5 years they automatically have their birthday off each year from then onwards!

Loyalty Pins
Our staff wear their loyalty pins with pride, these are issued when employees reach certain milestones in their careers with us: Purple pin = 1 year Bronze pin = 3 years Silver pin = 5 years Gold pin = 10 years

Competitions
Nannas Day Nurseries are famous for our annual competitions ranging from Treasure Baskets to Halloween and Role Play, the rewards for winning these are much appreciated from additional annual leave days to money to spend in your room! The Christmas competition is particularly hard fought for the nursery to win the title of ‘Best Decorated’ and the coveted trophy!

Bonus Schemes
At Nannas there is always the opportunity to earn more money, we are aware that childcare is not the best paid career but we offer competitive rates of pay and additional opportunities to add to your monthly salary, these range from performance related to temporary promotion (covering your room leaders holiday for example).

AGM and Awards Ceremony
Our Annual General Meeting is a fantastic celebration of our year at Nannas and takes place in December with the whole team getting together to share achievements, promotions and qualifications gained! The highlight of the evening is the annual trophy presentation to the Employees of the Year!

Paid Training Days
At Nannas we hold 8 internal training sessions on a range of topics which will ensure that your practice is up to date. This will also support any NVQ work you may be doing. If employees attend all 8 sessions they will accrue an additional 2 days annual leave in the following holiday year!

NVQ Time Out
As employees don’t attend college to complete their training we offer them time out of their normal working week in order to complete their coursework.

Employee of the Month Every month staff, children and parents vote for their ‘employee of the month’, this person is presented with a certificate and a small gift showing our appreciation. Their poster and face is also displayed in the staff room for all to see!

Your Celebrations
On your anniversary each year, not only will you receive a loyalty pin if it is a special anniversary but you will also receive a certificate and we will celebrate your anniversary in your own unique way for example wearing our hair in your traditional plait!

Monthly Staff Bonding
Monthly staff meals or nights out are organised to provide our employees with some much needed relaxation time!

Easter Eggs and Advent Calendars
Staff are rewarded at these special times of year with Easter Eggs around March/April and a Christmas advent calendar in December to mark the all-important Christmas countdown!
